Maisaka-shuku Waki-Honjin

  • Culture
Tokaido Maisaka-shuku was the 30th post town located along the old Tokaido road during the Edo Period. As such, it flourished as a ferry port. The waki-honjin (lodging facility) served as a supplementary accommodation for the hon-jin (inns for daimyo, court nobles, and shogunate officials) when many travelers passed through. The Maisaka-shuku Waki-Honjin has been restored as the only one of its kind remaining along the former Tokaido route.
