Those riding the bullet train to or from Tokyo will be greeted by the sight of a tall structure on the right side. This is the Hamamatsu Act Tower, a 45-storied, 213-meter building. Until a few years ago, it was the highest structure in central Japan, a region that includes Nagoya. The tower houses a concert hall, a shopping mall, and in the upper half of the tower, a hotel. Since Hamamatsu is known as a city of musical instruments, some say this building resembles a harmonica. There is an observation deck on the top floor, where visitors can enjoy a view of the city; when the weather permits, Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps, and the Pacific Ocean are also visible from here!
