The gateway to the region for most travelers is Hamamatsu Station, where the Shinkansen stops from Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. The Tokaido Line, a local train line, also stops here. It is the starting point for various buses departing to Hamamatsu City and the Enshu Railway. In addition to being a transportation hub, Hamamatsu Station is an information center and shopping facility for travelers.
