When it comes to Japanese railways, most people may think of the Shinkansen or trains in Tokyo running on a tight schedule. However, there is a nostalgic kind of railroad in Hamamatsu. The Tenryu Hamanako Railroad runs from Kakegawa City, where the Shinkansen stops, circling Lake Hamana to Shinjohara Station in Aichi Prefecture. Most of the station buildings are designated as Important Cultural Properties by the Japanese government. The rural landscape along the route will make passengers forget about the hustle and bustle of the city. The scenery has even inspired anime movies, such as Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time and Laid-Back Camp.
