Akihasan Hongu Akiha Shrine is dedicated to the fire god enshrined in the mountains north of Hamamatsu. It is the main shrine of more than 1,100 Akiha Shrines in Japan. Akiha Shrine was established in 702 with a history spanning over 1,300 years. Akihabara district in Tokyo was even named after this shrine!
The sacred site is separated into an easily accessible lower shrine and an upper shrine near the summit of Mt. Akiha. The upper shrine is famous for its magnificent view since it is located near the summit. In recent years, it has become a popular photo spot thanks to its golden torii gates.
