In 2001, Nagasaka Bee Farm moved from the Mikkabi shopping district to a new location along the shores of Lake Hamana, and this year marks the 89th anniversary of its founding.
“Nagasaka Bee Farm”, which is visited by approximately 450,000 tourists a year in a store the size of a convenience store, is known for its smiling staff, courteous customer service, and delicious honey made from local Mikkabi mandarin orange flowers. It has a wide variety of original processed products and is known for its high customer satisfaction.
From inside the store, you can see a lush courtyard where you can watch the natural activities of bees, and there is also plenty of playfulness, such as quizzes that are sure to pique the interest of visitors.
“Nagasaka Bee Farm” welcomes visitors with easy-to-understand product pop-ups and sample samples, and the “honey soft serve ice cream” that you can take out is also very popular.
The sweetness and richness of the vanilla soft-serve ice cream is so sweet that the honey is kneaded into the cream, and the final touch is “Oi-honey!!” The staff will show off the oi-honey right in front of you. This is a huge hit, with up to 2,000 units sold in one day.
This month’s recommendation is the popular store in Mikkabi-cho, “Nagasaka Bee Farm”♪
The founder, Mr. Kihei Nagasaka, who suffered from a lung disease while working as an apprentice in Kanagawa Prefecture and was living a resting life in his hometown of Mikkabi, regained his health with the nutrition of honey. This inspired him to become a force that supports the health of many people. and Nagasaka Bee Farm, which started beekeeping in 1935.
“In addition to being grateful for the bees, Mr. Kihei, the founder of the company, has run his beekeeping business with the idea of ”sanbo yoshi,” which means valuing “oneself,” “other people,” and “third parties.” It was passed on to the second generation, Mr. Mitsuo Nagasaka, who laid the foundation for the Nagasaka Bee Farm,” says Mr. Yoshito Nagasaka, the third generation president.
Nagasaka Bee Farm’s management that “values people” was highly praised, and the company received the Judging Committee’s Special Award at the “Japan’s Most Valuable Company Award,” and the philosophy that has been cherished since its founding has come to fruition. We have grown into a company that attracts more than 450,000 visitors annually.
This year marks the 89th anniversary of our founding. We offer delicious honey and original processed products locally in Mikkabi.
At Nagasaka Bee Farm, we offer “Mikkabi Mikan Honey” collected from Mikkabi mandarin orange flowers, “Mikkabi Satoyama Honey” which is a natural blend honey extracted from various flowers, and seasonal limited honey that allows you to enjoy the different tastes and scents depending on the region and flower. We carry domestic honey grown in Japan’s climate, such as “Sakura Honey,” “Renge Honey,” “Akashia Honey,” “Bodaiju Honey,” and “Soba Honey.”
Among them, Nagasaka Bee Farm’s original blend “Second Generation Honey” is a long-selling product that has been loved by many people since its release.
And in 2023, the “third generation honey” will be born. It is known for its elegant, high sugar content, rich and luxurious taste.
When the first generation Mr. Kihei Nagasaka (1935-) started beekeeping, there were plenty of fields of vetch that could be used as organic fertilizer for the fields. Honey collected from the astragalus fields of Iwata in April and from Mikkabi mandarin orange flowers in May was called “Mire”, and the delicious honey blended with the power of nature was sold as “Nagasaka Honey”.
However, over time, farmland turned into residential land, and the number of vetch fields decreased dramatically. Nowadays, astragalus honey has become rare and valuable.
Therefore, the second generation, Mr. Mitsuo Nagasaka (appointed as president in 1985, current chairman), traveled to mainland China in search of honey that was comparable to domestically produced astragalus. “Second Generation Honey” was created by blending “Mikkabi Mikan Honey” and “Akasia Honey”.
“Second Generation Honey” is a honey that stands out for its refreshing sweetness and deliciousness. Another great thing about this product is that it’s reasonably priced so you can have it as an everyday companion.
Some people may be concerned about the quality when they hear that honey is produced in a foreign country, but the honey that is collected using Japanese-style beekeeping has undergone a total of seven quality and agricultural inspections at specialized organizations such as the Japan Analysis Center. This is safe and secure honey that has passed the test.
The honey, which is filled with the second generation’s desire to “deliver honey that can be easily used on the dining table,” has been loved by many people since its release.
Do you know how much honey bees collect in their lifetime?
That’s just one teaspoon.
This precious honey contains over 100 types of nutrients that we need, including minerals, vitamins, amino acids, organic acids, and enzymes.
Additionally, honey has lower calories and carbohydrates than sugar, so using honey instead of sugar in cooking can reduce calories. When used in cooking, it serves as a seasoning that increases the richness and flavor, and when added to yogurt, it activates bifidobacteria.
In addition, honey whose sugar content is broken down into glucose and fructose by bee enzymes is quickly absorbed by the body when ingested. It provides immediate energy supply to the body and brain, making it useful for charging energy during work, study, and sports.
Honey also has excellent hygroscopicity, moisturizing power, and whitening effect, so you can use it as a honey pack by spreading a thin layer of honey on your wet face during bath time.
If you wash it off after a while, your skin will be moisturized. Although there are individual differences, natural ingredients have excellent power that helps create beautiful skin. (*Please refrain from using honey packs if you have sensitive skin)
Mikkabi Town is famous for producing Mikkabi mandarin oranges. There is an apiary in nature surrounded by Lake Hamana and the Mikkabi mandarin orange mountains.
The rare “Mikkabi Mikan Honey” produced from Mikkabi Mikan flowers is available for sale starting in May every year. You can enjoy the refreshing scent of mandarin orange flowers in the refreshing taste.
The popular Mikkabi Mikan Honey, which sells out every year, won the 1st Honey of the Year Excellence Award sponsored by the Japan Honey Meister Association.

The best spot is on the horse! ? Report on HAS Hamamatsu Horse Riding Club
In ancient China, it is said that ideas and inspiration are born in the “Mikami”.
“Mikami” means “Makami” (when you are in bed), “Mikami” (when you are in the bathroom), and “Mikami” (when you are riding a horse).
There seem to be various theories as to why inspiration occurs on a horse, including “a state of deep concentration amidst fluctuations,” “It’s easy to come up with ideas while moving,” and “the relaxing effect of riding alone on a horse.” But what actually happens?
At the HAS Hamamatsu Horse Riding Club in Mikatahara-cho, Kita-ku, Hamamatsu City, we spoke to Taiki Yakushi, who is involved with horses on a daily basis, about horseback riding.
