Catch Lake Hamana’s famous eel! Bake it! Eat it! active eating experience

Imagireguchi, where Lake Hamana meets the Pacific Ocean, is also known as a great fishing spot. There, in Hamanako Imagire Park, there is “Kaikokan,” where you can enjoy various hands-on learning activities related to the sea. A popular spot where you can enjoy outdoor activities by the sea all day long, such as barbecue venues and beaches, with a pleasant view of Lake Hamana and Benten Island in the background. On this day, two people from Sea Lake HAMANA Jenne will try their hand at catching an eel!

Just eating is boring! "Eel catching experience"

Even if you eat eel at a restaurant, there are probably not many people who have ever caught an eel! Sea Lake HAMANA Jenne VS Eel. Check out that fight!

An eel is released into the pond on cue. They quickly spread out into the pond and run away, and Jenne chases after them, but they can’t quite catch up to them. With the advice of the staff, we cornered the eel in a corner of the pond and finally grabbed the eel. However, as it slips away from your hands, screams echo from the sensation you’ve never experienced before!

Eels have the property of secreting a large amount of mucus to protect their bodies, so even when two people tried to catch them, they slipped out of their hands. Still, it’s a physical battle between two people, Eel and Jenne, who challenge themselves over and over again. Just when it seemed like it was going to be a long battle, the eel finally managed to catch it, perhaps because it made a sound or because it had gotten the hang of it, and when it screamed and put it in the basket, the people around it cheered. After that, the catch basket was filled with eels one after another. I finished catching it with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation for Kabayaki.

The eel you catch will be cooked on the spot, and the kabayaki experience will whet your appetite!

Once you’ve taken the trouble to catch the eel, the staff will shred it and grill it on the spot. You’ve never seen eel being skillfully chopped on a cutting board so close up, so it’s sure to be a valuable experience.

The kabayaki experience starts from here, even though it looks very delicious in its crispy, white-grilled state. Cut the eel into appropriate size pieces, insert bamboo skewers, and place on the stove. At the timing I was instructed, I flipped it over, dipped it in Kaikokan’s special kabayaki sauce, and put it back on the stove. The fragrant aroma spread around me and my stomach growled! After repeating the process of dipping it in the sauce and grilling it three times, you’ll get delicious golden-brown kabayaki.

A moment of bliss after hard work. Enjoy eel bowl with the lake in the background!

A bowl of eel rice topped with piping hot rice and grilled eel that you grilled yourself. There’s something special about grilling and eating the eel you caught with so much effort after a long struggle. There is no doubt that it will give you a taste of eel like never before. The two Jenners also enjoyed the long-awaited kabayaki eel. The satisfied look on his face as he chews while remembering the hardships he went through to get there is a testament to how delicious it is. At Kaikokan, you can also try the “whitebait kettle frying experience,” where you boil whitebait in a large pot, and the “fish catching experience,” where you catch live fish from Lake Hamana. It is a perfect theme park at Lake Hamana that can be enjoyed in combination with a barbecue, satisfying everyone from groups to families.
