Do you know about “Takiya fishing” which has become a popular activity at Lake Hamana at night in recent years?
This is a traditional fishing method at Lake Hamana that involves catching crabs, shrimp, sea bream, etc. with harpoons and nets. It’s a very luxurious experience where you don’t just catch the seafood, the boatmen cook it on the raft.
This time, Jenne and her friends will be taking on the challenge of takiya fishing! We will send you a lot of photos, including the party we enjoyed after returning from fishing. I wonder if I can catch the Sawtooth Crab! ?
“Takiya fishing” is a traditional fishing method unique to Lake Hamana, in which peopl and ash. Currently, it is used as a sightseeing boat and a recreational boat, and goes fishing every day from May to September every year, except in bad weather.
The six people who will take on the challenge of takiya fishing this time are Jenne Haruka, Jenne Yusa, Jenne Ayano, Jenne Wakana, Jenne Anna, and Jenne Mitarai.
The first of the six are sisters Anna Jenne and Wakana Jenne. Pay attention to the movements of the two beginners! ?
Takiya fishing starts at sunset. Sunset time in Hamamatsu on this day is 7:00 p.m.
By then, we had boarded the boat, put on belt-type life jackets, and waited for fishing to begin.
The photo above shows Takiya-tei, a floating facility made up of three or four rafts connected together. Located a little further from the pier, it is a place where you can enjoy freshly caught seafood prepared by the boatman after returning from fishing.
It has a roof, so you don’t have to worry about it even if it suddenly rains.
Baboon! It feels refreshing to cut the wind. The first fishing point of the evening was near the red torii gate on Bentenjima. There are smiles on the faces of Jenne and her friends as they head there.
The fishing point changes almost every day, and you will move to several locations even after fishing.
“My dinner♪” said Jenne, sounding like she was having fun. He is eager to catch fish and is reliable.
Each Takiya fishing boat can accommodate up to four people (excluding the boatman). For this interview, Jenne and her staff were spread out on three ships.
As we approached the red torii gate, the boatman stopped the boat.
・The front left and right of the ship are in charge of Mori, and the rear left and right are Tamo in charge.
・The harpoon (because it is long and heavy) is placed on the boat and waits until the prey is found.
・The boatman will let you know when prey such as crabs or fish approaches, so you can visually check and reply if you spot it.
He gave us tips and advice on how to catch them.
The expression on Jenne’s face as she takes on the challenge of fishing is very serious.
Once you’ve been taught everything, it’s time to start scorching and fishing!
Jenne and her friends search for prey by relying on the light of LED lights placed in the water. The surface of the lake on this day was a little cloudy, and the yellow-green color of the lake was magical.
“Isn’t this harpoon really long?” Yusa Jenne said, holding a 4-5 meter harpoon in her hand. Yes, I think it’s long. And the handle is made of iron, so it’s heavy.
A few minutes after we started fishing, the boatman quickly caught a crab. Wakana Jenne’s request flies, “Big brother. Next, let’s do it!”
“Hold the harpoon with your dominant hand facing up. The best timing is to strike with 1, 2, and 3,” says the boatman. Taking advantage of those words, Jenne Yusa gets the tie! Great job!
Anna Jenne, who is in charge of the ash at the back of the ship, also seems to have scooped up something. When fishing for ash, they scoop out longbeams, which are long, slender fish, so we can expect to see them as well.
Wakana Jenne and Ayano Jenne, who were on a different boat from Yusa Jenne, Haruka Jenne, and Anna Jenne, and were struggling with harpoons, also got a tie. A big smile on my face.
The difficulty level of the fish will change depending on how you encounter them. How can I catch it? That’s nice.
That’s because I had the opportunity to poke crabs and sea bream several times with a harpoon, but each time ended in failure…
Furthermore, there is a crab in Ayano Jenne’s harpoon! As expected!
“I caught a Seigo (a successful fish)!” “What is this? Driftwood?” “I have a good sense of netting, don’t you? Big brother,” and other cheerful voices were heard throughout the night. It echoes in Lake Hamana.
oh yeah. Advice from the boatman included, “Pick crabs from directly above and pull them out straight above,” and “When you want to catch crabs, look at the surface of the lake diagonally in front of your direction of travel.”
Yusa Jenne is doing well. Maybe the birth of a fisherman! ?
Before I knew it, the people in charge of Mori and Tamo had changed on the ship Yusa Jenne and the others boarded (you can change them whenever you like).
The key to catching halfbeaks is to pull them out as soon as they enter the ash. If you don’t do this, the halfbeak will immediately make a U-turn, so you won’t be able to scoop it up.
Moreover, when this fish senses danger, it will jump off the surface of the lake.
The Takiya fishing experience lasts approximately 90 minutes. The boats carrying Jenne and the others arrived at Takiya-tei one by one. We then transferred the catch to a basket and took a commemorative photo with the boatman.
Look! These fish they caught!
The boatmen will now prepare the freshly caught seafood from Lake Hamana. I’m looking forward to it.
Jenne Haruka and Jenne Ayano also lifted the fish that Jenne Yusa caught. It was Yusa Jenne who caught the successful fish Seigo.
On this day, it was neap tide and the moon age was 22. It’s a waning moon, and the moon doesn’t come out until around 12 o’clock at night.
Takiya fishing is done at night, so nights with no moonlight are a better chance for fishing than during a full moon when the moonlight illuminates the surface of the lake.
Furthermore, the tides are also important, and according to the boatman, “You’ll catch more fish when the tide is slightly low than during spring tide.” So, the conditions were quite good on this day.
However, in July and August, the lake water becomes cloudy, so you can only explore shallow waters. Yes, I had a lot of fun even in the shallow water.

After a while, I heard the sound of sizzling and fried food. The mouth-watering smell of tempura also wafted through the air.
“I did it! I can eat a lot of shrimp tempura♪” said Jenne happily.
“Ebi tempura is ready~”
To express our gratitude for the hard work of the fishing industry, we held a glass of Hamamatsu’s Hananomai Sake Brewery’s “Abysse Sparkling” and “Puchishuwa Sake Chobitto Cheans” series in one hand and said “Cheers!”.
Takiya-tei is a facility made up of connected rafts, so I was worried about the shaking, but I hardly feel it, so I can concentrate on eating.
“Something’s here!”
As you continue to eat the shrimp tempura, cooked seafood arrives at your table one after another.
While stuffing my mouth with halfbeak tempura, I said, “The flesh is so fluffy. Even though it’s such a small fish, it’s so fluffy!” Jenne Haruka and Jenne Wakana also seem satisfied.
The side dishes for the banquet are tempura such as shrimp, halfbeak, and small pieces of seigo, and boiled crab.
The only seasoning is salt. However, the flavor of the ingredients comes out and is delicious!
“It’s freshly caught. It’s absolutely delicious!” “I can’t stop eating it.”
Yusa Jenne, Ayano Jenne, and Anna Jenne pose while holding freshly boiled crabs (blue crabs).
“Do this here…” Jenne Ayano is reliable as she removes the crab’s shell.
On this day’s fishing, we were not able to catch the Japanese doman crab, which is known as the “phantom crab.” The best time to catch Japanese crabs is from August, so it seems like it was a little early.
The chance to experience sightseeing and sightseeing boats is available until the end of September. If you are interested, please try it.
The banquet ends with a richly flavored miso soup infused with crab extract.
Everyone seemed very satisfied, saying, “I’m already full,” “It was so much fun that I forgot about the heat,” and “I was invited so many times.”
Thank you for the meal.

Good luck by visiting the four shrines! Totomi Happiness: Inome Pilgrimage and Amulet
Do you know “Totomi Happiness and Inome Pilgrimage Amulet”?
This is an initiative to complete an “Inome Pilgrimage Amulet” by visiting four shrines located in the western part of Shizuoka Prefecture (Totomi region) and combining four small “Inome wooden tag amulets” given at each shrine. .
This name comes from the fact that the shape of the wooden tag imitates Inome Inome.
This time, I would like to introduce “Totomi Happiness Inome Pilgrimage Amulet”.
