Directly connected to JR Hamamatsu Station! Hamamatsu souvenirs are available at “Ekimachi West”

When do you buy souvenirs during your trip?

Ekimachi West, which is directly connected to JR Hamamatsu Station, has a wide selection of must-see Hamamatsu souvenirs, including Lake Hamana eel and Hamamatsu gyoza, as well as local sake, green tea, and sweets.

This time, we will introduce stores in Ekimachi West that specialize in Hamamatsu souvenirs, roughly divided into Hamamatsu souvenirs, sweets, and restaurants (cafes and restaurants). Each one is a delicious specialty of Hamamatsu.

Directly connected to Hamamatsu Station! Exhaust waist

The timing of buying souvenirs while traveling varies from person to person. I think many people buy it when they come across a heart-pounding item at a tourist spot or where they are staying.

However, if possible, I would like to reduce the amount of luggage I carry while traveling. “Ekimachi Waist” can meet that desire.

Ekimachi West is a souvenir shop directly connected to JR Hamamatsu Station. The location is almost directly in front of the JR ticket office. It is located on the west side across the north-south passage.

You can easily stop by when you are traveling to Hamamatsu or on a business trip.

Recommended for the exhaustion waist! 4 Hamamatsu souvenir shops!

When it comes to souvenirs, something delicious made with local ingredients from Hamamatsu is a must! First, we will introduce four recommended stores where you can purchase Hamamatsu souvenirs.

●Shokado

If you would like to buy souvenirs made with ingredients from the Hamamatsu area, such as Mikkabi mandarin oranges, Shizuoka tea, and Shizuoka greenhouse melons, please visit Shokodo. The store’s most recommended product is the “fragrance roll,” which is miso wrapped in shiso leaves.

Among them, “Egoma Misomaki”, which is made by kneading roasted perilla seeds into miso, goes perfectly with rice or tea! The perilla leaves are of course produced in Enshu and Mikawa.

In addition, locally harvested “Maisaka whitebait” and “Hamanako seaweed” are also popular. Good as a side dish or as a snack with alcohol. Popular as souvenirs for travel and business trips.

●Hana no Mai

Founded in the first year of Genji. “Hana no Mai” has been operating a sake manufacturing business in Miyaguchi, Aratama Village, Totomi Province (currently Miyaguchi, Hamakita Ward, Hamamatsu City) since the end of the Edo period. We manufacture and sell local sake made with carefully selected ingredients.

The company’s chief brewer is from Shizuoka Prefecture. They use locally grown Yamada Nishiki rice, which is suitable for sake brewing, and underground water from the Southern Alps to make sake that is all about Shizuoka.

The recommended souvenir is the Daiginjo sake “Hana no Mai.”

They also have ginjo sake, junmai sake, nama sake, and light low-malt beer. Abysse Sparkling, a light low-malt beer, is especially popular among young women.

There is also a paid tasting corner with a rich lineup.

*Tasting prices and lineup may vary depending on the season.

It’s also a good idea to sample the products and buy the products you like.

●Lake Hamana Fish Farming Cooperative Store “Maruhama”

If you think, “When you think of souvenirs from Hamamatsu, you think of Lake Hamana eel,” we recommend Maruhama, a store directly managed by the Lake Hamana Fish Farming Cooperative, whose parent organization is the Hamana Lake Eel Fishing Cooperative.

Maruhama, which specializes in Hamanako eel, sells the popular Hamanako eel bento, as well as shirayaki, kabayaki, and tsukudani dishes.

The way the eel is handled and grilled is Kanto style.

The shelf life is 30 days if you keep it refrigerated if it is a vacuum packed product. It comes with sauce and Japanese pepper, so it’s the perfect souvenir! The three types of eel bento are also very popular! I’m confused as to which one to choose.

“Unagi Bone”, made from eel bones, is a hidden popular souvenir that is perfect as a snack.

The “curry flavor” is especially rare, and is recommended for those who want to buy a unique souvenir.

●Matsuura Seicha

If you want to take delicious tea as a souvenir, please visit Matsuura Seicha.

Matsuura Seicha has its main store in Morimachi, which is called the Little Kyoto of Enshu, and has been consistently producing tea in its hometown of Morimachi since its founding.

Among the teas on display at the store, the most popular are the teas that won awards at the Morimachi Tea Fair.

The tea leaves, which are cultivated by taking advantage of the advantages of both flatlands and mountainous regions, are attractive for their sweetness and richness with just the right amount of bitterness.

If you are having trouble deciding which tea to purchase, we recommend that you consult with them at the store.

Matcha gelato and Sencha gelato are also popular sweets.

It’s the perfect size to eat on the Shinkansen, so be sure to buy it on your way back from sightseeing and enjoy it while remembering your trip to Hamamatsu!

Sweets are also unique to Hamamatsu! 2 recommended stores

There are many sweets that are unique to Hamamatsu that make great souvenirs.

●Unagiimo STORE

Have you heard of Hamamatsu’s new specialty, “Unagiimo”?

Unagi-imo is a type of sweet potato grown using the residue left over from cooking eel as fertilizer. It is sweet, moist, and has a rich taste!

The most recommended souvenir from “Unagiimo STORE” is “Mittori Pie.”

This dish is packed with diced eel boiled in honey and paste, making it a satisfying meal!

Also, the most popular item here is the “Eel Mont Blanc Soft”.

Of course, we use eel potatoes for our soft serve ice cream and Mont Blanc.

On top of that, I sprinkled roasted sweet potato powder and rock salt to bring out the sweetness. Since its release, this item has been praised for its fluffy, extra-fine Mont Blanc and rich, delicious soft-serve ice cream.

Enjoy the “Eel Mont Blanc Shake” by changing the flavor while stirring.

Enjoy eel sweet potato sweets at Unagiimo STORE!

●Marutaya Western confectionery shop

Marutaya Western Confectionery Store is a long-established Western confectionery store in Hamamatsu that has been in business for 70 years.

All of the sweets that are carefully and lovingly handcrafted by artisans every day are exquisite, but our favorite is definitely the cheesecake!

If you want a souvenir of the cheesecake, which has a reputation for being rich but has a refreshing aftertaste, don’t hesitate to head to Marutaya Western Confectionery Shop.

Marutaya Western Confectionery Shop’s cheesecake has three layers, including the batter.

Rich Danish cream cheese is poured on top of the crispy cookie dough and baked, and after it cools, refreshing sour domestic sour cream is added to harden it.

This is a great dish where you can enjoy both rare cheesecake and baked cheesecake at the same time.

Cheese box and cheesecake are the same thing, so if you want to share with a large number of people, we recommend the cheese box, and if you want to buy one for each person, we recommend the cheesecake.

Another souvenir sweet that is attracting attention is “ageshio”.

“Ageshio” is a high-quality, light-textured cookie that is a classic and popular snack in the local Hamamatsu area.

It has a variety of textures and aromas such as dried fruits and nuts, making it a dish that you will keep picking at without getting tired of it.

(Actually, the cookie dough for the cheesecake is also made from a specially formulated “ageshio”!)

A gorgeous aroma when you open the package. Furthermore, the crunchy texture and flavor linger for a long time, leaving you feeling happy. If you would like to take 50g of mini-ageshio as a souvenir or gift, we recommend the paid triangular box.

Don't miss the popular Hamamatsu gourmet "Ishimatsu Gyoza"!

After purchasing Hamamatsu souvenirs at Ekimachi West, be sure to stop by the restaurant as well!

At the restaurant, you can also enjoy Hamamatsu gyoza, a representative Hamamatsu gourmet dish.

What’s more, you can eat “Ishimatsu Gyoza”, the original Hamamatsu Gyoza!

Ekimachi West is right next to the Shinkansen ticket gate, so you can enjoy gourmet food without worrying about time.

The menu is broadly divided into “eat-in” and “grilled gyoza to take away.”

We don’t have frozen gyoza, so if you’re concerned about the smell when you take it home, try it here!

Hamamatsu gyoza is different from regular gyoza because it is filled with vegetables, mainly domestically grown cabbage.

The good thing about this is that it doesn’t use much garlic, so the smell isn’t too noticeable.

The appearance of Hamamatsu Gyoza is the boiled bean sprouts placed in the middle of the circularly baked gyoza. The first owner of Ishimatsu Gyoza was the one who established this style.

The juicy flavor of the odor-free pork grown in Enshu and the sweetness of the cabbage match for a refreshing taste, making it very popular among people of all ages and genders!

Some men eat 20 pieces by themselves.

Even women can feel free to stop by because the garlic isn’t bothersome.

This time we introduced just a few of the Hamamatsu souvenirs that Ekimachi West sells. Discover a heart-pounding dish and make delicious memories.

Spend special time with your dog in Hamamatsu, a town for dog lovers

Did you know that Hamamatsu ranks first among the 20 largest cities in Japan in terms of the percentage of households that own a pet dog? Since there are many dog lovers, there are naturally many facilities that welcome dogs and other pets. This time, I would like to introduce spots around Hamamatsu and Lake Hamana where you can easily go and play with your dog.

This time we will be traveling with Mr. Iijima’s family who live in Hamamatsu City. My beloved dogs are Siberian Huskies “Ritaro-kun” (left) and “Kotaro-kun” (right).

Ritarou is a gentle and friendly dog who plays well with all dogs. He loves chasing other dogs at the dog park and digging holes.

Kotaro is a spoiled and lonely dog who gets angry and howls when his owner interacts with children. Even though he’s a Siberian Husky, he doesn’t really like walking and is sensitive to the cold.

By the way, both of them love bread.

A night science museum, a journey through the starry sky that fascinates adults

When I entered Hamamatsu Science Museum Miraira after 4pm, there were many people waiting for something. There are no children there. Only adults of all ages were there. Everyone was glancing at the clock or at the reception desk, as if they were looking forward to something.

At 4:30, a science museum staff member came to guide us. I was waiting! Everyone lined up just like that. What on earth is there in a science museum that has so many adults lining up at a time like this?

In fact, the “Night Science Museum” started in July at Hamamatsu Science Museum Miraira. It is a night museum that is open to high school students and above once a month on the third Friday.
