On display inside the museum are costumes and tools that appeared in the drama. You can also enjoy the sets used in the shooting and original footage.

The sales floor of the “Shusse Town Ieyasu SHOP” in “Hamamatsu Shusse Park” where the Taiga Drama Museum is located has also been renovated!(These facilities are already closed)

“What to do with Ieyasu Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Museum” grand opening!

About 1.2 km northwest from JR Hamamatsu Station, with Hamamatsu Castle as a landmark.

“What to do with Ieyasu Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Museum” has opened in “Hamamatsu Shusse Park” on the north side of Hamamatsu City Hall.

The museum will be open from Saturday, March 18, 2023 (Reiwa 5) to Sunday, January 14, 2024 (Reiwa 6). The entrance to the drama hall is located under a red eave, and it is said that this was once the back gate of Hamamatsu Castle’s main enclosure.

▲Potted pine plants planted by Jun Matsumoto and others

The photo above shows the area of Honmaru Higashibori. Honmaru Higashibori was built between Hamamatsu Castle’s Honmaru and Ninomaru.

Some people may wonder, “Where is Hamamatsu Castle’s Ninomaru?” This is the location of Hamamatsu Shusse Park. Recent excavations have uncovered the remains of Hamamatsu Castle’s Ninomaru Palace.

▲The entrance ticket sales counter is marked by a camp curtain with the Aoi crest painted in gold on a white background.

The ticket sales counter is on the right side of the Taiga Drama Museum.

“What to do with Ieyasu Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Museum” is divided into six areas.

The first area is a monitor displaying large-format visuals of the drama, a welcome message from Jun Matsumoto, and a panel display of the program’s overview.

Check out the size of the large visual that appears when you enter the museum! The welcome message is Hamamatsu’s original version.

In addition to the introduction and synopsis of the program, the panel display of the program overview includes loving messages from the scriptwriters and others to “What Should I Do With Ieyasu” (NHK)

Let's go to Hamamatsu Castle!

The footage used in the drama is projected on the screen behind the guardhouse.

The second area is a corner where the large set that appears in the drama has been relocated and recreated. If you pass through the “hanging gate” made of logs, you will see Hamamatsu Castle!

What you can see behind the flip-up gate is the guard hut built around Hamamatsu Castle’s Demaru. The guard house is actually a set used in the drama.

The ability to relocate and recreate the large set was unique to the museum, which has high ceilings!

▲Pay attention to how to make a horse fence

There are horse fences all over the building to protect against enemy intrusion.

According to Masafumi Kato (director of the Japan Castle Association), if you tie the logs evenly in the vertical and horizontal directions, you will be able to easily step on them and climb over them.

The key to avoiding this is to tie it in one place at the bottom and two places at the top like this. It’s a faithful reproduction.

Experience the world of “What to do with Ieyasu”!

▲The character relationship diagram includes common names such as “Saemon no Jo”

The third area is an area where you can experience the world of “What to do with Ieyasu”.

In addition to introducing the characters in the drama, exhibiting the costumes worn by the actors, and the props used, the scenery projected on the large screen is also a must-see.

The photo above is a character relationship chart that shows the performers’ faces, their role names, and their relationships with Prince Ieyasu. Please remember this panel when you want to check who is connected to whom and how.

▲The bright red armor worn by Nagisa Sekimizu, who plays the role of Tazuru.

The scarlet thread belly wrap worn by Tazu Otaguru, who became the female lord of Hikima Castle, is set against a backdrop of crimson flames. The bright red armor is reminiscent of a red camellia flower.

The props that appeared in the drama are in a glass case.

You can get a close look at the items the performers picked up, so don’t miss it!

Hamamatsu Castle Demaru’s lookout hut can also be seen in the third area.

This is also a relocated and exhibited photo set, and Hanzo Hattori, “not a ninja but a representative ninja,” is watching over Demaru. Check out the scenery of Hamamatsu Castle projected on the big screen.

▲Prince Ieyasu’s costume: white indigo ground unevenly dyed hemp hitatare and white flower colored linen kosode; Sena’s costume: honey colored unevenly dyed linen kosode and shishiro ground unevenly dyed linen obi.

The costumes of Prince Ieyasu and his legal wife, Princess Sena (Tsukiyama-dono) are displayed side by side.

The elegant and calm colored kosode is perfect for two young people. Isn’t it exciting to think that these are the costumes that Jun Matsumoto and Kasumi Arimura actually wore?

▲Shingen’s warm-looking costume made of thick, soft wool; a kosode made of mulberry-colored carpet, the same hakama, and a haori with dark-brown trim.

On the other hand, this is the costume that Takeda Shingen wore when he met Prince Ieyasu.

Standing on either side are Shingen’s flag sashimono (military flag), which was said to be the strongest during the Sengoku period. Some military commanders may have lost their will to fight just by seeing such magnificent flags and accessories on the battlefield.

On the wall, there is also an explanatory panel by Ken Hirayama, a historian who is in charge of historical research for “What to do with Ieyasu”!

There is special experience content that visitors can participate in.

The fourth area is special experience content and photo spots.

At the photo spot, you can take photos with life-sized panels of the performers. Stand between Prince Ieyasu and Princess Sena and take a commemorative photo to remember your visit to the Taiga Drama Museum in Hamamatsu.

Standing a little further away from the friendly pair is Shingen, who is eyeing the Tokugawa territory with all eyes on him. Even the background shows a disturbing atmosphere.

▲The word “what to do” appears in several places at once.

In the special experience content, you can enjoy the opening of the drama and the title background video. First, let’s step on the words “What to do” projected on the floor in the area.

I’m looking forward to seeing which images will emerge♪

The moment you step on it, a ring appears surrounding the words “What to do”, and colorful shapes burst out from there and fly towards the wall.

When the shapes arrive on the screen on the wall, a fan or fern emerges from them. Look forward to seeing what images emerge! I liked the fern.

Screening of original footage from Taiga Drama Museum in Hamamatsu

The fifth area is a 4K theater that is said to be a place where you can enjoy the Hamamatsu version of “What’s Wrong with Ieyasu” even more.

The two videos shown at the theater are both original from the Taiga Drama Museum in Hamamatsu. Don’t miss the drama’s making footage and original interviews!

Please take a look at it on the large 240-inch screen.

The sixth area is the planning corner and ending.

In the passageway, photographs taken by Jun Matsumoto when he visited places related to Lord Ieyasu in Hamamatsu City are displayed. Don’t miss the one-word messages attached to the colored paper autographed by the main performers. The large poster also has Jun Matsumoto’s handwritten message written in silver letters!

Hamamatsu souvenirs are available at the “Town of Success, Ieyasu SHOP”

The “Success Town Ieyasu SHOP” in “Hamamatsu Shusse Park” has also been completely renovated, and the number of products sold in the store has increased significantly. The landmark of the building is the purple logo.

The store is full of Hamamatsu souvenirs!

Since the number of products has increased since the store first opened, we have changed to a three-dimensional display method.

The nishiki-e of “December 1980, 1983 – Picture of the Battle of Alligahara War” is extra large, measuring 150 cm in height x 300 cm in width.

Goods supervised by Jun Matsumoto are displayed on the wall, including a brocade painting depicting the Battle of Mikatagahara, as well as on a shelf near the center of the store that displays the title logo of “What to do with Ieyasu.”

The one-size-fits-all T-shirts can only be purchased at Taiga Drama Museum shops in Okazaki, Hamamatsu, and Shizuoka.

When I asked the store staff, they said that there will be more goods with Hamamatsu’s original “Dosuru Ieyasu” title logo in the future. You’ll want to visit again and again.

A passageway that shines with Hamamatsu’s uniqueness

The colorful tenugui towels that line the aisles were made by elementary school students as part of their Hamamatsu Chusen Someme experience.

The number of posters is approximately 60. The design drawn on the bottom of the tenugui is an original family crest stamp that they devised and created. Some visitors can’t help but admire the way the Tenugui towels sway in the Enshu wind.

Local Tenryu wood is used for the pillars of the passage. However, it is not just wood. This is Olympic legacy material that was returned to Hamamatsu after being used in the Olympic Village for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

There are some places with commemorative branding irons, so why not look for them?

▲The flowers lined up at the foot of the sub-gate near Hamamatsu Castle Park are made by the Flower Pot Project of Expectations and Hopes.

Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu spent his youth and prime years in Hamamatsu from the ages of 27 to 45.

I don’t know what my future will be. I don’t know about the future of this country.

Please enjoy the life of Prince Ieyasu who lived in such a turbulent era not only in the historical drama “What to do with Ieyasu” (NHK) but also in “What to do with Ieyasu Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Museum.”
