An amazing sunset seen from the top of the mountain! Winter-only spectacular sunset plan| Lake Hamana Paragliding School

“I want to spend special time with someone special”

If you are such a person, we recommend the “Visit to the Spectacular Paragliding Site” experience at Lake Hamana Paragliding School!

Among them, the “Spectacular Sunset Plan”, which is only available in winter, is a romantic activity where you can watch the sun set over Lake Hamana from the top of the mountain.

This time, we actually experienced the “Breathtaking Sunset Plan” together with Hamamatsu and Lake Hamana Tourism Ambassadors Ms. Haruka Isobe and Mr. Akira Natsukawa, so we will report in detail on its charms!

Lake Hamana Paragliding School where you can enjoy the sunset from the summit

Lake Hamana Paragliding School, located in Mikkabi-cho, Hamana-ku, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is a specialized paragliding school with a full-fledged curriculum.

From beginners to professionals, we offer lessons tailored to your skill level.

In addition to lessons, Lake Hamana Paragliding School also offers a variety of other activities, such as trial flights where you can fly in the sky with an instructor and visits to a paragliding site where you can enjoy the spectacular view of Lake Hamana from the top of a mountain.

In particular, the “Breathtaking Sunset Plan,” which is only available in winter, is a popular activity that has already become a hot topic on social media.

Let’s go and try it out right away!

Let's get on the trolley train and set off!

After checking in at the Lake Hamana Paragliding School shop, you will board a special school vehicle and drive along the forest road for about 15 minutes.

Once you arrive at the monorail station, you’ll transfer to a special monorail, which is like a trolley train, and head for the summit, which is 420m above sea level!

Our guide will be Mr. Tsubasa Aoki, principal of Lake Hamana Paragliding School.

The monorail rattling along between the trees feels like an attraction!

The green tunnel that spreads out on both sides and the view of Lake Hamana that gradually opens up are so beautiful you’ll want to take photos.

The excitement along the way is also part of the special experience.

We arrived at the summit in about 10 minutes and were greeted with a spectacular panoramic view!

Once you reach the summit, a spectacular view that can only be seen here is right in front of you!

When you get off the trolley train, a magnificent view from the summit at an altitude of 420m will unfold before your eyes!

This place is used as a takeoff point for paragliders, and with no obstructions in the surrounding area, you can enjoy a spectacular view overlooking Lake Hamana below.

On this day, we arrived at the summit just before dusk when the sky was still slightly blue, and the bright sunlight lit up nature, beautifully illuminating Lake Hamana and the distant mountains.

Until the sun sets, you can sit back on the fluffy cushions and enjoy a quiet moment in a spacious setting.

The moment you feel the wind and are enveloped in nature is a luxurious experience that helps you forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

It's finally time for the sun to go down! I'm moved by the ever-changing scenery.

As sunset approaches, the sky gradually turns crimson red, and the ever-changing scenery is captivating.

As the sun set, the sky turned golden and the silhouettes of the mountains stood out.

Lake Hamana in the distance is bathed in the light of the setting sun, and the whole scene takes on gentle hues that look just like something out of a painting.

The two ambassadors were captivated by its beauty.

The sunset view changes depending on the weather and cloud cover of the day.

We were blessed with clear skies that day, and were able to enjoy the gradational scenery that continued from the sky to the lake surface.

There were some clouds, but the light shining through the gaps in the clouds was very fantastic.

As I watched the scenery change with the passing of time, I felt a mysterious calm in my mind.

Toasting with hot tangerine juice while watching the sunset

The “Spectacular Sunset Plan” allows you to enjoy the sunset from the mountaintop, and as a special treat, we offer hot Mikkabi mandarin juice from Wada Farm.

Because the summit is at a high altitude, it often gets quite chilly in the winter evenings.

The warm mandarin juice will warm your body.

The two ambassadors also toasted with hot mandarin juice.

As I lean back on the soft cushions and sip the mild-tasting mandarin juice while gazing at Lake Hamana below, I can’t help but smile and think, “This is so relaxing.”

A romantic moment where the sweet and sour scent of Mikkabi mandarins softly floats around and warmth permeates your heart.

Why not try drinking hot mandarin juice on a mountaintop illuminated by the setting sun?

With the “Spectacular Sunset Plan,” you will descend the mountain before it gets dark on the summit (before the sun sets), but the activity is not over yet.

On the way back, we took the trolley train down the mountain!

In fact, I was really excited on the trolley train on the way back.

As the sun was setting and it was getting dark, the trolley train slowly descended through the forest. It was a thrilling ride that was different from the climb, and we enjoyed it until the very end!

A new way to enjoy the cool and soft Hamamatsu Chusen Yukata, not just fireworks.

“Is there a fireworks display somewhere today?” I often get asked when I’m wearing a yukata. This is probably because many people have an established image of it as something to wear when going to a fireworks display. They brightly color the Japanese summer, and just seeing them will instantly get you in the summer mood. In fact, yukata is a specialty product that Hamamatsu accounts for about half of the total amount handled, and boasts the highest amount of yukata in Japan.

The manufacturer of Hamamatsu-made yukata has begun a “new challenge” in order to preserve the area of production and the skills of its craftsmen. What we will be talking about here is a yukata made using the traditional “Chusen-some” technique. In recent years, it has been introduced more and more in the news, and you may have come across this word more often. Chusen-some is a method of dyeing yukata and tenugui with colored patterns, and it got its name from the fact that the dye is poured over the folded fabric. Using traditional techniques found only in Japan, every step is made by hand by skilled craftsmen.
