[A long-established inn in Araimachi, Kosai City] The past and future of the renovated Seifuso

Seifuso is located in the Arai Benten area of Arai Town, Kosai City.

Seifuso is a rental lodge located on the sunny shores of Lake Hamana, a rare brackish lake in Japan, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean and the lake.

The building, which was once a popular guesthouse, has been renovated to create a space that combines modern comfort with a nostalgic atmosphere.

So this time, we would like to unravel the history of Seifuso and introduce the charm of the newly reborn Seifuso.

The History of Seifuso

The founding of Seifuso dates back to the early Showa period.

At the time, Araimachi was a thriving post town, and Seifuso started out as an inn beloved by travelers and locals alike.

From the time it first opened, it was designed to allow visitors to enjoy the lakeside views, and it became popular as a building that made the most of its scenic surroundings.

After the war, Seifuso was renovated and expanded in line with the development of tourism, and its function as an accommodation facility was enhanced.

During the period of rapid economic growth in the Showa era, it served as a base for sightseeing at Lake Hamana, welcoming many tourists and contributing to the development of the local tourism industry.

After that, it was used for seaside schools and training camps in the Arai Benten area for many years, but due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in recent years, it has been forced to close.

As it was open until a few years ago, there are probably many people who know the name “Seifuso” or have even stayed there.

In fact, I found that many people around me also knew about Seifuso.

Therefore, while there was some sadness about the renovation, there were also many voices expressing their eagerness to see the new Seifuso begin.

The 2018 training camp held by the Hamamatsu Youth Sports Club [Budo Zen Karate Ryukenkai] has been posted on a past blog, so please take a look!

Seifuso to be renovated in August 2024

In August 2024, Seifuso, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Lake Hamana, will be reopening after renovation.

This inn is a great place to gather with family and friends and spend a relaxing time freely and easily. It comes equipped with a spacious living room, a dining room with an open hearth, a mini-kitchen, three bedrooms, as well as a sauna and large public bath that are available 24 hours a day.

It truly is a special place for visitors to relax.

The renovation was undertaken by “Good Market & Shops”, a nationwide chain of restaurants and old house renovation businesses.

The project is led by President Mr. Shimizu Akihiro, a native of Fukuroi City. When President Mr. Shimizu visited Arai Town three years ago, he fell in love with this inn adjacent to Lake Hamana’s beach and saw new potential for it, which led to the current renovation.

In the first phase of renovation, of the seven buildings, all of which are 40 to 50 years old, the two-story steel-framed Building No. 2 was renovated, taking advantage of its prime location facing Lake Hamana.

Three recommended points of the newly renovated Seifuso

POINT.01 Good location

One of the charms of Seifuso has remained unchanged since the old days: its wonderful location.

This is the view from the room on the second floor.

Not only can you get a panoramic view of the vast Lake Hamana, but you can also see the townscape spreading out in the distance, the red torii gate of Bentenjima, and in winter, Mount Fuji beyond the mountains.

Since long ago, Seifuso has been known for its privileged location. Even now that it has been renovated, its charm remains unchanged.

Just looking at the scenery of the slowly flowing waters of Lake Hamana brings peace of mind.

POINT.02 Meals

Seifuso serves dishes made with plenty of ingredients sourced in Kosai City.

For example, there is kankan-yaki oysters from Lake Hamana, primitive grilled fish caught in the Enshu Nada Sea and Lake Hamana, and “mochi-gatsuo” (sticky bonito), a dish unique to this region!

You can enjoy a luxurious meal around the indoor hearth!

*Food only can also be provided.

POINT.03 Open-air bath with sauna

The property features a large public bath and sauna.

You can also soothe your travel fatigue in the large public bath! You can also relax in the sauna!

It operates 24 hours a day, so you can use it anytime.

Of course, the sauna is also equipped with a cold bath.

The great location is a perfect match for the large public bath!

It’s truly luxurious to be able to enjoy the magnificent view of Lake Hamana while taking a bath.

What’s more, it’s only a few seconds from the large public bath to Lake Hamana! Once you leave the sauna, you can head straight to Lake Hamana.

Cooperation with neighboring facilities

The Arai Benten area where Seifuso is located is home to the Arai Benten Sea Fishing Park, a popular fishing spot in Shizuoka Prefecture that attracts anglers throughout the year.

The Arai Benten area has plenty to offer, with seasonal Lake Hamana cuisine available, such as eel catching and broiled eels in the summer and oyster huts in the winter. The beach also opens in the summer, making it a great place to visit.

Furthermore, thanks to the tourist resource of Lake Hamana, sightseeing tours on the lake are also held (depending on the season), providing a valuable experience in which you can rediscover the charms of Arai Town from a different perspective than your everyday life!

The future of Seifuso

Currently, only one building of Seifuso has been renovated and reopened.

However, Seifuso has multiple buildings scattered throughout the neighborhood.

“We will be carrying out renovation work on all of the buildings over the next few years,” said President Mr. Shimizu.

With this latest renovation as a start, Seifuso has the potential to become a base for lodging in Arai-cho, Kosai City.

Please come and enjoy Seifuso with your family and friends, with its beautiful location and sophisticated space.
