Flower illuminations color the night in Hamamatsu during the Christmas season

As Christmas approaches, the Hamamatsu Flower Park is illuminated with a warm glow, as if to alleviate the winter cold.

The park will be lit up from 5pm, when it is normally closed. We spoke to Mr. Yamashita, the team leader who has been in charge of plant management and decoration at Hamamatsu Flower Park for over 10 years, about “Flower Illumination,” where you can enjoy strolling through the park decked out in a million illuminations under the night sky. I did.

What is Hamamatsu Flower Park, which opened in 1970?

Hamamatsu Flower Park, located in Kanzanji Temple, Nishi Ward, Hamamatsu City, takes advantage of the topography of Lake Hamana to create a garden of cherry blossoms and tulips, which is said to be the most beautiful in the world, as well as wisteria, roses, irises, and flowers that decorate the flower beds. It is a relaxing space that blooms in all seasons.

There are many things to enjoy in the park, such as the large greenhouse “Crystal Palace” that displays exhibits based on seasonal themes, the “Great Fountain Show” with water and music, and the “Flower Train” observation vehicle that runs through the park.

You are free to bring your own lunch, so people of all ages can enjoy the park with a picnic or the nearby Hamamatsu City Zoo.

Flower illumination will be lit again this year

“Flower Illumination” is a popular winter project that continues to evolve and change its contents every year.

Preparations for the limited-time night event will begin in the spring, and will be unveiled through the summer and fall, including planning, design, and checking of the illuminations. Even while we were unable to operate due to the coronavirus pandemic, we have continued to make preparations, including employees working across departmental boundaries to clean the park. You can see the handmade decorations made by the staff at various places in the park.

The approximately 6-minute large fountain show that takes place every 30 minutes has been designed this year so that you can see it as close as possible.

The 8m tall Christmas tree and the popular photo spot “Friends of the Forest” also look different in the light than during the day.

A fusion of light and sound. Music provided by Hamamatsu City Yaramaika Ambassador Jam9

The illuminations are even more enjoyable when combined with the music playing throughout the park. In “Tunnel of Light”, the piano’s reverse playback (sound that seems to be approaching) is used effectively at the lighting switching points, calculating that sound and light are linked.

Jam9, who provided the song, said, “When I was a child, I walked through Flower Park with my grandfather leading me by the hand.As someone who was born and raised in Hamamatsu, I am proud to be able to provide music to Flower Park.” I wish I could support Illumination with a gentle sound that soothes the soul!”, he said, expressing his thoughts on creating music that resonates in all areas.

Next 50. I want to continue to be a place where you can feel healthy.

This year’s “Flower Illumination” will be held on November 27, 2021, and will be held until December 26, 2021, after Christmas. The lighting hours are from 17:00 to 20:00, and admission is free for junior high school students and younger.

(*Opening hours will be extended to 20:30 on Saturdays, Sundays, and from December 11th.)

Last year we celebrated the 50th anniversary since the park opened in 1970, and we are looking forward to the next 50 years. The employees of Hamamatsu Flower Park work together to manage and operate the park, with the aim of continuing to be a place that gives energy to Hamamatsu citizens and visitors to Kanzanji Temple.

Preparations for next spring’s cherry blossoms, tulips, and lawns are already underway, and it looks like they will continue to entertain even after the illuminations are over. Please take a look at our website, which is updated with information on seasonal flowers and events.

The two people, wearing Enshu cotton, came to the Tenpaku Iwakura Ruins, which is located within the grounds of Ii Shrine and is known as a power spot near Lake Okuhamana.

This place is also famous as the place associated with Naotora, and a huge stone is enshrined there.
