From JR Hamamatsu Station to tourist spots in the city! Introducing how to get to the bus terminal where route buses arrive and depart and coin lockers

Hamamatsu is a tourist and cultural city where you can enjoy rich nature, food, and historical romance.

JR Hamamatsu Station, which is served by the Tokaido Shinkansen and Tokaido Main Line, is close to the bus terminal that connects various parts of the city and tourist spots, making it the central station of Hamamatsu.

However, the problem was that the directions to the bus terminal were difficult to understand. So this time, we will show you how to get to the bus terminal from JR Hamamatsu Station.

There are two main entrances and exits to Hamamatsu Station.

If you take the JR line, Hamamatsu Station is the gateway to Hamamatsu.

There are mainly two entrances and exits to the station: the south exit and the north exit. In addition, there is the station building May One and the east ticket gate, which provides access to the adjacent Act City.

We will head to the bus terminal from the north exit, but first we will show you the south exit, which is closer to the Shinkansen ticket gate.

When you exit the ticket gate, you will see the JR Tokai Tours store in front of you, and the Hamamatsu City Tourist Information Center diagonally to the left. The south exit is on the left.

There is a taxi stand and underground parking lot at the south exit. There are taxi stands at both the north and south exits, so it’s best to go to the one closest to the sightseeing spot you want to visit.

Please use the south exit to get to Hamamatsu Science Museum, which you can enjoy even on rainy days.

The Hamamatsu City Tourist Information Center sells guide maps and other must-have Hamamatsu souvenirs, and also distributes manhole cards.

Inside the hotel, the resident staff will carefully tell you about the highlights of the city’s sightseeing spots and how to access them. Get the tourist guide map you’re looking for here!

Although there is a charge, you can leave your suitcases and other luggage there.

・Baggage storage service…9:00-18:00

・Price: Suitcase 800 yen/piece ・Bag 500/piece

・Payment method: Cash(Reservations and credit card payments can be made through the Ecbo cloak app or web)

Go to Hamamatsu Station North Exit Bus Terminal!

To get to the bus terminal, go out of the Shinkansen or Tokaido Main Line (conventional line) ticket gate and turn right along the station passage.

The photo above is just after exiting the Shinkansen ticket gate, but as you can see, there is no information about the “bus terminal” in this area.

There is barely any guidance to the coin lockers inside the station building.

However, since the photo was taken in June 2022, directions to the bus terminal may be displayed as the Taiga drama gets closer to airing.

Anyway, let’s go straight towards the “exit”! What you can see on the left is Ekimachi West, where you can find Hamamatsu souvenirs.

Follow the directions to the “Shopping District (May B1)” just before the exit.

Even after descending, it is still straight. When you reach the bottom, the tiles on the floor will change.

We said goodbye to the station building and entered the underground passageway of the bus terminal. The words “Bus Terminal” finally appear on the information board. It’s a relief.

Coin lockers are lined up on the left as you exit the station building. This service is open from 6:30 to 23:00.

Go straight down the gentle slope to the bus terminal and turn right at the end.

After merging with the passage from the left, take the escalator you can see diagonally ahead to the right and go up. If you’ve come this far, it’s almost time to go to the bus terminal!

There is an elevator inside the underground passage that takes you to the ground level, but that would take you a little further from the bus stop that takes you to major sightseeing spots such as Kanzanji Temple, so we recommend using the escalator.

Once you get on the escalator and go to the ground, you are already at the bus terminal!

Look at the “boarding point information” in front of the bus and head to your desired bus stop. To the left of the “board information” is a ticket center that doubles as an information desk and a waiting room.

If you want to go to Hamamatsu Flower Park or Kanzanji Onsen, go to platform 1, and if you want to go to Nakatajima Sand Dunes, go to platform 6.

To get to Hamamatsu Castle, get off at Shiyakusho Minami if you take a bus departing from bus stop 1, or get off at Shiyakusho-mae if you take a bus departing from bus stop No. 13, then walk for about 5 to 6 minutes.

Hamamatsu Station North Exit Bus Terminal is a regular hexagon

The Hamamatsu Station North Exit Bus Terminal is a regular hexagon, which is rare in Japan.

This means that even if you don’t know which bus stop you’re looking for, you can still get there by walking around the area. As someone who rarely rides local buses, this structure has helped me several times.

Platform 1, where buses depart for Kanzanji Temple, can be seen diagonally to the right in front of you when you look back from the “boarding point information”.

Entetsu Bus has introduced a bus location system that lights up when a route bus approaches a major bus stop, letting you know when the bus is approaching. This is a great system for bus users.

Bus fares connecting Hamamatsu City and the suburbs are not uniform. The fare increases as the distance between the boarding bus stop and the getting off bus stop increases. If you are unsure, please look at the information board that shows the fare and approximate travel time from platform 1.

If you want to go to Nakatajima Sand Dunes, which is considered one of the three major sand dunes in Japan, go to platform 6.

Hamamatsu Festival is held from May 3rd to 5th every year. The main event of the day, the “Big Kite Flying Battle,” will be held at the kite-flying plaza on the west side of Nakatajima Sand Dunes. *Shuttle buses will run to the venue during the festival period.

If you want to experience the excitement of the Hamamatsu Festival all year round, get off at the Nakatajima Sand Dunes bus stop and head to the Hamamatsu Festival Hall.

There are coin lockers in the basement of the bus terminal.

There is another coin locker in the basement of Hamamatsu Station North Exit Bus Terminal.

It’s on the side of Aisle C, which is almost directly in front of you when you look at the escalator going up from the underground passage to the ground.

There are coin lockers of several sizes. The largest coin locker can accommodate quite large luggage.

However, the usage time is until 24:00 on the same day, so please be careful when using it.

Hamamatsu City is one of the main settings for the 2023 taiga drama “What’s Wrong with Ieyasu?” In addition to Hamamatsu Castle, there are many spots related to Ieyasu scattered around it.

There are mountains, rivers, and hot springs. Don’t miss the delicious food made from fresh local ingredients. I hope you have a fun holiday in Hamamatsu.
