Hamamatsu City, where the main character, Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu, lived for 17 years, will pre-open the “What to do with Ieyasu Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Museum” on January 22nd. During the pre-opening period, you can enjoy exhibits of costumes used in past taiga dramas and videos.

Hamamatsu Shusse Park, where the Taiga Drama Museum is located, also exhibits the stone walls of Hamamatsu Castle (actual) and the remains of Ninomaru Palace!

“What to do with Ieyasu Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Museum” is now open!

The Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Hall for the 2023 taiga drama “Dosuru Ieyasu” (NHK) has opened in “Hamamatsu Shusse Park” on the north side of Hamamatsu City Hall.

The pre-opening period will be from Sunday, January 22, 2023 (Reiwa 5) to Tuesday, February 28, 2023, and the grand opening period will be from Saturday, March 18, 2023 (Reiwa 5). Until Sunday, January 14, 2024 (Reiwa 6). (Already closed)

The exhibition will change according to the content of the drama broadcast.

Enter Hamamatsu Shusse Park, where the Taiga Drama Museum is located, through the main gate on the north side of Hamamatsu City Hall.

Some people may wonder, “What happened to Hamamatsu Shusse Park?” Yes, it is the site of Motojo Elementary School, which closed in March 2017. Excavations conducted after the school closed revealed the remains of Ninomaru Palace.

The ticket office is on the right side as you face Taiga Drama Museum. The curtain with a golden hollyhock crest on a white background is impressive!

What is the situation inside the building?

“What to do with Ieyasu Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Museum” is divided into four areas.

During the pre-opening period until February 28, 2023, the main attraction will be limited-time exhibitions that can only be seen before the grand opening from March 18.

The first area displays a panoramic chronology of 61 historical taiga dramas.

In addition to the cast introductions and plot summaries of the first work, “The Life of a Flower” to the 61st work, “Kamakura-dono no 13”, the book also includes information on television, Japanese social history, and the history of Hamamatsu City that occurred in those years. It’s well written so it’s worth reading. Inside the passage, there are horse fences and flag flags.

The second area introduces Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was depicted in historical taiga dramas.

Lord Ieyasu appears in 25 out of 61 works. We are screening carefully selected opening videos of 7 of these 25 films.

In addition, the costumes and armor worn by Prince Ieyasu in three works in the drama are also on display. You can see familiar costumes up close.

The third area is the theater.

At the theater, you can see Lord Ieyasu appearing in historical taiga dramas.

Please enjoy how the role of Lord Ieyasu was played by famous actors of yesteryear, including Sakae Takita, who starred in the 21st film, “Tokugawa Ieyasu,” as well as the differences in how he is portrayed in each work. You might even see your favorite Ieyasu! ?

The fourth area is an introduction corner for the 2023 taiga drama “What’s Wrong with Ieyasu” (NHK)?

Here, life-size panels of Jun Matsumoto, who plays the main character Lord Ieyasu, and Kasumi Arimura, who plays the role of his legal wife, Princess Sena (Dono Tsukiyama), are on display.

Commemorative photos are OK, so stand between them and take a memorable photo!

The Birthplace Well was discovered in the place where the mansion where the second Tokugawa Shogun Hidetada was born was said to have been.

Since no well frame was found during the excavation, this well frame is a mock-up, but the location is the same as the one where the well was discovered.

When Ninomaru was excavated, a collection of tiles used for the roofs of buildings within Hamamatsu Castle were unearthed.

This tile collection was replaced after it was damaged among the tiles that were roofing the current Hamamatsu Castle (reconstruction castle tower). Wouldn’t you be excited to see the Aoi crest decorated on the straw of the eaves tiles?

In the building on the right side of the ticket office, the stone wall of the northeast corner of Hamamatsu Castle’s main enclosure is on display.

The way they are stacked is in the same way as the stone walls of Hamamatsu Castle, and you can clearly see the matsume stones (stones packed between the stone walls) and uragome stones (stones packed behind the stone walls).

It may be backfilled after the Taiga Drama Museum closes, so if you are interested, now is your chance!

To the right of the main gate of Hamamatsu Shusse Park are the remains of the Ninomaru Palace, whose floor plan has been recreated using wood.

By using “Hamamatsu Castle Karesansui Garden AR”, which utilizes XR technology, you can enjoy images of the Ninomaru Palace and gardens of the past.

The exhibition contents of “What to do with Ieyasu Hamamatsu Taiga Drama Museum” will be completely different between the pre-opening period until the end of February and the grand opening period from March 18th.
